Mrs. Shirley M. (Lirette) Griggs, Of Waltham, died Monday, February 1, 2010 in The Maristhill Nursing Facility. She was 74.

Shirley was born on April 12, 1935 in Waltham a daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Steeves) Lirette and has been a life-long Waltham resident.

Shirley's world centered on her family. She was an avid bingo player and bowler. She also enjoyed scrabble, yatzie, crosswords and cribbage. She and her family have fond memories of their times camping in Wentworth, New Hampshire on Diamond Pond where they had a camp for many years. It was at on this Pond where she and her husband enjoyed fishing together.

She leaves her husband, Joseph I. Griggs; her children, Shirley A. Coppi and her husband, Thomas, of Leominster, Carol Chiasson and her husband, Mike, of Walpole, NH, Robert Griggs of Brockton, Doris M. Griggs of Waltham, Jeanne Porter and her husband, Steve, of Waltham, Patricia Bourque and her husband, Roger, Joseph W. Griggs and his wife, Arlene, all of Waltham and Elizabeth Decoteau and her husband, Henry, of Leominster; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat 'Sheila'. She is predeceased by her brother, Frank Lirette.

Family and friends will honor and remember Shirley's life by gathering for a graveside service on Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Mount Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect Street, Waltham at 1 p.m. There are no calling hours.
